Estimada compañera Mirabel C. Noda,
1. Although we thought that the debate on Koyto (<www.ucalgary.ca>
Events ) was interesting and that Dr. Schindler made a powerful argument in
favour of action so that we can adapt to Global Climate Change, we were much
more impressed by the Environmental and Sustainable Development achievements
described in <magon.cu”
2. Possibly, the David Suzuki Foundation would be interested in learning more
about these achievements.
David Suzuki Foundation: Home The David Suzuki Foundation is a science-based
Canadian environmental organization, specializing in global warming, sustainable
forestry, salmon farming and ... Category: Arts > Literature > World

Estimada compañera Mirabel C. Noda,
1. From time to time, to read something interesting, we view your website
from which our belief that many Cubans remain heavily influenced by ideology
emanating from the United States of America has been confirmed. Also, with
respect, we look for stimulation from active members of your Party, in either
the Spanish or English language, in your Analysis and Debate Section.
2. During the last few days, further evidence of the weakness of the U.S.
economy has been provided. By every measure, it has a deficit. Experts are now
proposing yanki dollar devaluation so as to increase exports. Yesterday, the
resignation was announced of two of the most senior economic managers as TV
showed images of Wall Street executives standing on the sidewalk, trying to sell
their www.com wares.
3.
Once I built a tower, To the sky, From bricks and mortar and lime. As I built
a tower, I stood high. Buddie..can you Spare a dime?
Once I build a railroad, Made it run, Made it race Against time. Once I built
a railroad, Now it’s gone. Buddie, can you Spare a dime?
Once in army boots Jee, wasn’t it swell, Singing out yanki doodle dum? Half
a million troops Went marching through Hell, And I was the kid With the drum.
Say, don’t you remember? You called me Al? Called me Al, All the time. Say,
don’t you remember, I’m your Pal? Buddie, can you Spare a dime?
4.. Although we realize that some young people (who, often, are sad, lonely
and bored) experience Attention Deficit Syndrome, we continue to believe that
the Caracas Strategic Action plan should be executed more effectively to avert
both world war and catastrophic environmental disaster

Estimada compañera Mirabel C. Noda,
1. We still enjoy learning about your view of the world in your own language
and, from time to time, visit your website in the hope of reading something
interesting in your analysis and opinion section. Although we have been accused
of “spamming” the Caracas Strategic Action Plan, we hope that you have been
applying yourselves to its study because it provides a good analysis and a good
plan that overlaps with Canada’s humanitarian foreign policy to defend this
country’s sovereignty by implementing the international financial strategy
2. Another year is approaching. We hope that 2003 will see the strengthening
of proletarian internationalist solidarity and the solidarity of all social
forces striving to bring peace to the hearts and homes of the oppressed. We hope
that during 2003, turmoil will be replaced and sanity in the minds and mansions
of the mighty and that, for the benefit of future generations, young Canadians
and Cubans will start working together to conserve the World Heritage City of
Havana.
3. The closing of a year provokes nostalgia. Some of us who have visited Cuba
on many occasions remember the apathy that we encountered during our visits to
the University of Havana. We remember lack of interest in discussing ideas,
based on historical materialist principlrs that are directed toward meeting the
needs of the proletariat of the Era of the Scientific and Technological
Revolution such as those that were presented by Fidel in Caracas.
4. Young people themselves must do the work of acquiring the human and
technical resources that they need to obtain knowledge that will enable them to
apply these ideas.
5. Of course, we also remember our personal friends.
¿Cual vida sin poetas?
Across the continent and the Caribbean, from the mountains of Alberta, near
Kananaskis where world leaders met this year and decided on an action plan for
Africa and on a plan to deal with the environmental problem in the Arctic, my
own special thoughts are extended to a Cuban teacher, a compañera who actively
participated in that great adventure, the campaign to overcome illiteracy in
your country; to a Cuban poet of Filipino origin, a camerada who revitalized my
interest in Afro-Caribbean culture by introducing me to the breath of fresh air
contained in the works of Nicolás Guillén; and to the Cuban workers in the
Museum of the Campaign Against Illiteracy, the greatest achievement of your
Revolution.
6. The words of this song were written by Robert Burns, the national poet of
Scotland, who died from fever shortly before he could reach the barque on which
he was to travel to the Antilles.
Estas al igual que muchas otre cosas son pasajes de nuestra historia casi jamás
contadas.
¿ Hai qu’escaecer l’antiguu tratu
y nun lu remembrar?
¿Hai qu’escaecer l’antiguu tratu
y la vieya amistá ?
***
Pola vieya amistá
pola vieya amistá
vamos tomar un vaso
pola vieya amistá
***
Tú cola to pinta
y yo cola mía
vamos cantar un pocu
pola vieya amistá

David Whitefield.

2. Today, the Southam Press reported that Fidel has sent a detailed chronicle
for his reasons for having been in repose during the meetings of the Cuban
National Assembly and that he feels more optimistic than ever about the future
of the Revolution.
3. We are old people who have recovered from insect bites.
4. In addition, the Southam Press published a recent report by the Strategic
Counsel.
“The triumph of capitalism in the 1990’s after the erosion of communism
really left the business community in a very commanding position, where it
seemed unassailable. And clearly this has proved to be false”.
Yours fraternally,
David Whitefield

2. Today, the Southam Press reported that Cubans intend to share their
knowledge about Ernest Hemingway with the yankis.
3. Like most men who were accultured within slave-based societies, Hemingway
was lazy, sexist and racist. On several occasions, we have visited the “Old
Man of the Sea” Hotel and the Hemingway Marina where the foreign
owned-controlled managers charge very high prices and provide very poor
services. The Hostal del Tejadillo is much better. In addition, we have eaten
expensive pizza in the Hemingway place in Old Havana. Much better food and
service was provided in the Restaurante Santo Engel.
4. There is much more to Cuba than Hemingway and Havana. Although I do not
enjoy the style of their music and dancing, the young people who were making
good use of the Palace (within walking distance of the Museum of the History of
the Campaign Against Liiteracy) that was once used by the Dictator Batista, were
enthusiastic.
5. The city of Santa Maria del Rosario is a beautiful example of a germanic
bishopstown where I participated very slightly in the magnificent performance of
the dramatic ballet, The Sale of African Slave Women. Last April, in a theatre
in Vedado, we watched a magnificent performance by the Cuban National Afro-Cuban
Dance Group.
Yours fraternally,
David Whitefield
