Dear compañera Maribel C. Noda,

1. We continue to visit your website

2. We remain actively at work, encouraging young people to engage in the struggle for peace and to avert environmental catastrophe. If the environmental catastrophe is not averted, trades unionists in addition to members of your Party and of the Cuban communist party will die prematurely.

3. Adequate answers to the question raised by compañero Miguel Angel were provided by Fidel in Caracas.

Yours fraternally,

David Whitefield

1. We regularly browse your websit to read interesting opinions and informed comments about the subjects mentioned.

2. We are simply little old working people. I can only imagine how much hard work is done by “los corruptos del PSOE, o de un delincuente como Serpa”. Creo que hay muchas cosas puras en el mundo qué no son mas que pura mierda, por ejemplo, la pureza de los novios que se masturban en vez de acostarse en una posada.

3. Last week, in Quito, the ministers of trade of the 34 countries that are negotiating the FTAA met.. They were adressed by many people, none more powerfully than by Leonidas Idas, the president of CONAIE, the federation of the indigenous people of Ecuador.

“We are suffering from poverty....the neo-liberal project you propose is marred by inequality....we are left with nothing but dollarization and poverty...I still have to pay $1.80 for a litre of milk...more than any of my people can afford.....When we complain, we risk being called terrorists by the U.S.”

4. When the meeting ended, the ‘protesters’ were asked to remain seated and wait until the ministers left.

“They can wait for us. We are leaving first”

5. We are encouraged by the results achieved by the Brazilian workers during the recent Presidential elections in that country.

6. As to the work that is being done by honourable members of your Party to provide ideological leadership to the people of Cuba - we know only what we have learned from the opinions and comments that you have published.

Yours fraternally,

David Whitefield

Estimada compañera Maribel C. Noda,

1. We are not North Americans. We are simply little old Canadian working people with neither the wish nor the intention of interfering in the internal affairs of your country or your party and who continue to believe that you can learn a great amount by studying such imperefect achievements of your own traditional revolutionary culture as the poetry of Nicolás Guillén, the José Marti Terminal, the lectures that Fidel delivered in Caracas (in which he asked you to give serious thought to the implications of the Scientific and Technological Revolution) and the Museum of the Campaign against Illiteracy.

2. Former President Nixon had many secrets. Could his conscience have troubled him because he seldom worked with his wife to wash the floors and the toilets in the White House? Maybe, there were tapes of his favourite executive assistant whispering “God Bless America” as she wiped the Presidential damp nose or less prominent soft tissue with a Kleenex. Maybe, public servants in the United States of America are less enthusiastic than the President about fighting the War against Terrorism. In our opinion, references to Armageddon further foment historical pessimism and undermine the spirits of those dreamers who, with Fidel, travelled on the Granma to Cuba..... tu caña miro gemir, crecer ansiosa, larga, larga, como un largo suspiro.

3. ¡ Casandra es mala...sigué!

4. We have no need for secrets. With deep respect for other little working people, we recall the appearance of the Cuban who gave me a book containing poems by Nicolás Guillén, of workers at the Museum and of teachers who engaged in that great adventure, the Campaign against Illiteracy.

Cierro entonces los ojos pero siempre de veo clavada allí, clavando tu mirada en mi pecho, larga mirada fija, como un puñal de sueño.

5. Honourable members or associates of your Party who are interested in the architecture of Old Havana could pay attention to the fact that Canada, your country’s most reliable ally since the time of your Revolution, takes seriously the commitment to work with you so that our World Heritage is preserved for the benefit of future generations.

6. Experienced observors of the democratic process believe that the political tide in Latin America is turning.

7. In Cuba, Poder Popular provides an institutional paradigm from which other peoples who aspire to life under democratic conditions could learn.

Yours fraternally,

David Whitefield

Estimada compañera Maribel C. Noda,

1. Although our members are in touch with humanitarian social and natural scientists in most countries in the world, we have no direct contact with Cubans. Since I visited the University of Havana last April, this fact can not be explained by our lack of effort.

2. Although the Cold War has ended, the United States of America, having been attacked by terrorists, is defending itself.

3. Your government does not advocate terrorism and is trying to “normalize” your country’s international relations

4. We believe that the people of the world, including people who live in countries that are members of the Organization of American States, would be better served if the Peace Bonus were applied so that the decisions that were made at the G8 Summit in Kananaskis and at the Sustainable Global Economic Development Conference were implemented.

5. Last Tuesday, in Calgary, we discussed with the UN. Special Commissioner, Mr. Stephen Lewis, a practical Action Program for Africa that could involve Organization of Iberolatinoamerican States institutions as well as the World Health and Panamerican Health Organization

Yours fraternally,

David Whitefield

2. We believe that you should implement the Caracas Strategic Action plan by collaborating with Canada’s efforts to implement the Kyoto Protocols.

3. “For circulation to those interested in the science related to global warming and Kyoto (and to those who really *need* to know more):

Prof. Martin Sharp gave a fabulous presentation at the University of Alberta on Nov. 13, in which he outlined several arguments or challenges to the global warming thesis, and refuted them with the evidence accepted by the vast majority of climate scientists. The slides from the talk are available at the link below, and most are pretty easy for a non-expert to understand. His website contains several other helpful links re: climate change.”

1. From time to time we browse your web site and look at your “Information, Opinion & Comments” Section.

2. We are always interested in learning about the achievements that have been made by the Cuban people since peoples power over the territory of your country was established during your Revolution. We are not aware of efforts by the Cuban state or people to establish their power in other countries.

3. Last week, Canada Minister for Defence, the Hon. Mr. William Graham ( who has publicly expressed interest in Poder Popular) interrupted a statement by the Secretary of State of the regime that rules the United States of America on behalf of the industrial military and finance complex.

4. The Security Council has the moral authority to solve the Iraq crisis.

5. Yesterday, a spokesman for Canada’s Ministry of Defence described President Bush’s Iraq policy as “idiotic”.

6. In Canada (and perhaps elsewhere) there is broad interest in knowing more about the greatest achievement of the Cuban people since your Revolution, The Campaign Against Illiteracy. While presenting his analysis in Caracas, Fidel made reference to that campaign.

7. We are not Cubans. We have neither the right nor the wish to interfere in your country or your Party’s internal affairs.

8. In what ways can you work to ensure that knowledge of the Campaign Against Illiteracy is more widely known, domestically and internationally?

Yours fraternally,

David Whitefield

4. We are not Cubans and have no right to interfere in your country’s affairs by drawing the Commissioner’s attention to such achievements of the Cuban people.

Estimada compañera Maribel C. Noda,

1. From time to time we browse your web site and look at your “Information, Opinion & Comments” Section. Although we hope that you do not disagree violently with our opinion about the quality of the <www.magon.cu> site, we also hope that your criticisms of it will be stated with vigour and respectful frankness

2. During the last few days, leaders of the Free World have met in Prague where they have agreed to the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization by including several states that were members of the Soviet Bloc. In addition, NATO has decided to participate in the War against Terrorism and is giving deep and serious thought to participating in the terror bombing of the people of Iraq so as to ensure that that country is disarmed.

3. According to media reports, a spokesperson who works closely with Canada’s Prime Minister described the President of the regime that manages affairs on behalf of the industrial-military and financial complex as a “moron”. In addition, some well-educated commentators have criticized Canada’s “low level” expenditures on armaments etcetera:- only Luxembourg and Iceland perform worse.

4. Should these “poor performers” purchase more armaments so as to provide the President with the opportunity to extend the War against Terrorism?

5. We understand that playwright Jim Sherman wrote this after Hu Jintao was named chief of the Communist Party in China and look forward to visiting your site to learn more on the topics that have been discussed.

HU'S ON FIRST

By James Sherman

(We take you now to the Oval Office)

George: Condi! Nice to see you. What's happening?

Condi: Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of China.

George: Great. Lay it on me.

Condi: Hu is the new leader of China.

George: That's what I want to know.

Condi: That's what I'm telling you.

George: That's what I'm asking you. Who is the new leader of China?

Condi: Yes.

George: I mean the fellow's name.

Condi: Hu.

George: The guy in China.

Condi: Hu.

George: The new leader of China.

Condi: Hu.

George: The Chinaman!

Condi: Hu is leading China.

George: Now whaddya' asking me for?

Condi: I'm telling you. Hu is leading China.

George: Well, I'm asking you. Who is leading China?

Condi: That's the man's name.

George: That's who's name?

Condi: Yes.

George: Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new leader of China?

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I thought he was in the Middle East.

Condi: That's correct.

George: Then who is in China?

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Yassir is in China?

Condi: No, sir.

George: Then who is?

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Yassir?

Condi: No, sir.

George: Look, Condi. I need to know the name of the new leader of China. Get me the Secretary General of the U.N. on the phone.

Condi: Kofi?

George: No, thanks.

Condi: You want Kofi?

George: No.

Condi: You don't want Kofi.

George: No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of milk. And then get me the U.N.

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N.

Condi: Kofi?

George: Milk! Will you please make the call?

Condi: And call who?

George: Who is the guy at the U.N?

Condi: Hu is the guy in China.

George: Will you stay out of China?!

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the U.N.

Condi: Kofi.

George: All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone. (Condi picks up the phone)

Condi: Rice, here.

George: Rice? Good idea. And a couple of egg rolls, too. Maybe we should send some to the guy in China. And the Middle East. Can you get Chinese food in the Middle East?

Yours fraternally,

David Whitefield

2. From today’s Southam News “Travel Section”, we learned that Cuba’s unique attractions are “music, mobsters and marvelous beaches” on which “Fidel Castro keeps many secrets from his fellow countrymen. For example,Cubans aren’t permitted to know where he lives. Nor do they have accurate information about who his wife and children are.”
